    You have an unfortunately common error in your notes on respiration. In chemistry, forming bonds creates more stable products (compounds) and therefore by the definition of heat of reaction, will release energy. This misconception abounds in biology, where only a part of the complete chemical process is studied. MAKING BONDS – Exothermic, hence most synthesis reactions are exothermic. BREAKING BONDS – Endothermic, hence most decomposition reaction require heat (energy) to be added. Here’s a link to help with better understanding
